Matt Turner Makes How Many Saves in Palace Win? 🦅; Weston and Weah Show Rolls On ⚫️⚪️

MATT TURNER MAKES PALACE DEBUT 🦅

This week’s ASU opens with a healthy dose of joy and positivity. As well as an impressive 7.7 Fotmob rating.

Matt Turner was all smiles after getting the start in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 League Cup win at Aston Villa on Wednesday. The match was Turner’s debut for the underdog Eagles, and Bergen County Buffon had eight saves in a victory that sees Palace through to just their second Carabao Cup quarter-final in 21 years.

While it seems unlikely the performance will be enough to see Turner unseat incumbent starter Dean Henderson, it is still likely to give the 30-year-old from Park Ridge, N.J. a good bit of momentum heading into the upcoming November international break. Congrats, Matty T. 🫡

THE WES AND WEAH SHOW ROLLS ON 🇮🇹

Besides being quite clever and funny, Weston McKennie’s nickname of “The Creator in Chief” has real meaning attached to it, as the USMNT midfielder has emerged as one of the top assisters in all of Serie A, his stats impressively bolstered after Sunday’s two-assist outing in Juventus’ 4-4 draw at Inter Milan.

So it’s a bit of a shock when McKennie gets in the goals himself. But it’s even more surprising when he’s fed by an American teammate. Yet that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday against Parma, as Wes headed one home off of a pinpoint cross from fellow countryman Tim Weah in the 31st minute for the Bianconeri.

The Turin chapter of the Gen Zeagles wasn’t done yet, however, as just 18 minutes later, Weah drove home a flying, left-footed volley to bring Juve level with the visitors, 2-2, which is how the match ended. The impressive goal came on the heels of Timmy scoring against Inter on Sunday. For those keeping score at home, that’s a combined three goals and three assists for the American duo in Juve’s last two games.

Juvent-USA, indeed.

WEEKLY PULISIC REPORT 📊

Photo: AC Milan

Christian Pulisic’s red-hot run of form that saw him notch goal contributions in four straight games for club and country came to an end on Tuesday in Milan’s 2-0 loss to Napoli. But the streak didn’t fall due to a staunch opposing defense, or a poor individual performance on Puli’s part. Instead, a stomach virus was what kept CP11 off the scoresheet, as well as out of the Rossoneri XI.

Hampered by illness, Pulisic could only sub on in the 62nd minute of the defeat, and while he was assertive in attack over those 28 minutes, he was unable to find the back of the net for the hosts. Next up for Milan is a Saturday league visit to Monza.

Pulisic 2024-25 Milan Stats: 7 Goals, 3 Assists, 12 Appearances (All Competitions)

ON THE SCORESHEET:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Haji Wright scored the 91st-minute winner for Coventry City against Luton on Saturday

🇳🇱 What’s Dutch for, “Keep him in the XI”? Ricardo Pepi bagged a brace (1st Goal | 2nd Goal) for PSV in their 6-0 win against Zwolle on Saturday. It was just El Tren’s second league start of the season.

🇳🇱 Malik Tillman also got his Zwolle on, as he scored his fifth goal of the season for PSV on Saturday.

🇩🇪 Santiago Castaneda continues to impress in the German second tier, as the 19-year-old midfielder from Tampa, Fla. had an assist in Paderborn’s 2-1 win over Köln on Friday.

🇨🇭 Konrad de la Fuente had his first goal contribution in his first start of the season for Lausanne, as the 23-year-old from Miami had an assist in the Swiss side’s 3-0 win over Yverdon on Tuesday.

🇭🇷 Rokas Pukstas headed home a goal in Hajduk Split’s 3-0 Croatian Cup win at Mladost Zdralovi on Wednesday.

ASU PARTING SHOT:

After making his senior debut for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Cole Campbell followed that up with a 77th-minute substitute appearance in BVB’s 1-0 DFB Pokal loss to Wolfsburg on Tuesday. The 18-year-old Icelandic-American attacker who was born in Houston to former Iceland Women’s National Team player Rakel Karvelsson has to be feeling quite positive about the recent uptick in minutes with the storied German side under first-year manager Nuri Sahin. The only problem is whether the rookie coach will be around much longer to continue with Campbell’s development; Dortmund have lost three straight games in all competitions, are down to seventh in the Bundesliga, and are now out of the German Cup.
